Flat Prevention 1999.06.05

Air-tight silk tube with fibreglass barrier between tube and tyre.

I have read that Mongol soldiers wore silk shirts that prevented arrows from penetrating deeply into their bodies.   The silk was woven so tightly that that the point of an arrow could not poke through.   The fabric would wrap around the arrow head to prevent barbs from catching onto flesh.  See here for more about this   http://netsword.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000422.html.

If silk works to keep arrows from going in too deep into flesh, it might also work to keep thorns and nails from going into the tube, thereby reducing the tendency of going flat.

Captains Cap using Tilley Endurables Design

The cap could be made from hemp or natural cotton. The cap could be secured using the windcord through the head band. The cap could be made with a secret pocket containing foam padding and owner's manual. The top part could be natural, mocha, olive, or navy, with British brass vents. The visor and headband could contrast as mocha, navy, or black on top and green, mocha, navy, or black underneath. The cap could have a sweat pad in the same location as the forehead pad in the TW2. The cap could also have ear flaps and interior adjustment as used in the TW2, or it could have a tuck-away neck protector as used in the LTM6C.  This cap could be modeled after the one worn by Bogart in the African Queen movie, using a Greek-Fishing-Cap-type crown.
